My Portfolio

    This year I learned a lot about myself and myself as a writer/reader. At the beginning of the year, I was not a very strong writer. I learned from my mistakes on papers and blog posts. If I had to choose what helped me the most this year, it would have to be blog posts. I think blogs posts helped  me as a writer the most is because the posts have to have a purpose and relate to various things. I like how we get to sometimes get to choose our own blog post topic because then we can work on our creative writing skills.      I learned that I am not the best poet and that writing outlines are easy for me. I said in another blog post that this year was a wake up call because we are in High School and there is a lot more work than the years before. As I am writing this post I am thinking about how I will make my goals for next year and you can see my goals in another blog post that I wrote.

     As I writer I need to work on many areas to make me a better writer. I definitely need to work on my transition sentences. The transitions are there in my writing, they are just not well developed. Writing in general is not my favorite thing to do. This year was a wake up call and I realized what I need to work on as a writer.      I need to work on my comma placement because I normally put to many commas in places that do not need commas. I also need to work on transferring my information the the outline into a paper because the points that I am trying to express on the outline are always different than the points on the paper. Now that I know what I am good and bad at I will set new goals for next year. I wrote about my goals for next year in the next blog post, so check it out.

     I can come up with ideas that I can write almost forever about. I am great at doing the pre-writting steps like an outline. However, I would not consider myself as a strong writer. I am strong at writing research papers and coming up with a thesis. I try to give a decent amount of background information when I write and I believe that I am pretty good at it.      The personal narrative essay was a pretty strong piece of writing for me. I used vivid details and gave the reader advise that can be applied to their life. I believe that my writing is not boring, so I guess I am have a strength of not letting the reader get bored. I am not the strongest writer in the world, but I try my best. I also have some areas that I need to work on and please check out my next blog post about what areas I still need to work on.

   I sometimes enjoy writing if it is a topic that interests me. Normally I do not enjoy writing and I do not consider myself as a strong writer. I like typing a lot more than hand writing because it is easier to write more and the reader gets the same information if it is written or typed. I always mess up when I hand write papers because I do not have the best hand writing and there is no spell check. Hand writing takes me twice as much time than typing, and the result is the same.    I don't mind writing blog posts because they are fairly short and I do not get distracted. However, when I write papers I get very distracted and it takes me a lot more time to get the assignment done. After the poetry unit I am a much better poet and like writing poetry. I do not like writing Literary Analysis or Personal Narratives. I do not write in my free time because I do not have time. In conclusion, I like writing about things in a concentrated paragraph or two.

   I went to the writing center on January, 30 2017 with a senior writing fellow. I worked on my Research Paper on the 1936 Olympics. The writing center fellow's always ask me to read out my paper out loud. I find this very helpful and it helps me see what I messed up on. I worked on my transitions and tried to make them flow more smoothly. I found the writing center very helpful this year. I will defiantly go to the writing center next year. Some of the writing fellows visited my class, they talked about how helpful the writing center is. I not only went to the writing center this semester, but I went twice. The writing center helps me calm my stress my helping me come up with a plan and help strengthen my paper. Overall, the Writing Center is a great addition to our school and it should stay there.
